First Indiana Bank employees sell roasted corn-on-the-cob with all proceeds going to the park, which is maintained solely by the Lions' 126 members, said Linda Guthrie of Zionsville, past president and co-chairman of the festival.
"It's really a family event," she said. Guthrie said about 20,000 people attend the festival, annually the weekend after Labor Day.
The Lions Club's Independence Day Celebration in Lions Park is another big day, with 10,000-12,000 people in attendance, Guthrie said.
The day offers fireworks, music, live entertainment, food and next year will feature The Wright Brothers Band.
The Lions sponsor an annual Easter-egg hunt, 9 a.m.-noon the Saturday before Palm Sunday at the park
An annual Hayrides and Pumpkin Day in the Park this year is 2-5 p.m. Oct. 16 with free hayrides, pumpkins for the kids to paint, and free food.
Guthrie said following through on the club's motto, We serve, the Lions sell apples, oranges and grapefruit in November with money from the fruit sale going to the Lions' scholarship program. Annually, the Zionsville Lions award $750 each year for four years to a graduating senior from Zionsville Community High School.
The Lions Club, with the town of Zionsville, this year for the first time hosted the Indiana Scholarship Pageant in June. The pageant will return in 2006 with the Lions Club assisting in many ways as one of its service projects.
The Lions Club Community Building is at 115 S. Elm St., is available and located on the park grounds.
The Lions work closely with two Little League organizations that use Lions Park fields April-July. Many of the state and district tournaments are played in the park, Guthrie said. Also, Zionsville Youth Football organization uses the park for practice weekday afternoons August-October.
The Lions' state projects are recycled eyewear and hearing aides, Cancer Control for Indiana, and Relay for Life, which is June 26-27, 2006. Lions also raise money for diabetes testing and control, and work at the local food pantry each February.
